HELP! College Essay!?

Question by Princessme123: HELP! College Essay!?
Tell me what you think!

Throughout my life I have met hundreds of people. Yet, only a few of those have been able to make a lasting impression in the way I live my life. Out of those few there is one that stands alone as the one person who has shaped me into the young woman I am today. The person that has made an impact on my life is my Grandpa because he taught me to share what I have to offer to the world, to love God above all else, and how to make life worth the living.
When I was little every time my parents would go on vacation my Papa would whisk me away to his and my Grandma’s little farm house in the country where I’d play with the chickens, swim in the creek, and help my grandma garden all day until it was time for bed. Bed time was always my favorite time at Papa’s house. I’d cozy up next to him with a bowl of raspberries on my lap and my favorite book, Happy Birthday to You by Dr Seuss, on his. The way he’d read the magical words would mesmerize me and my favorite line was “no one alive is you-er than you” well, because I thought “you-er” was the funniest word I had ever heard. It wasn’t until my first dance recital that I understood what those words meant. As I stood back stage, shaking in my little pink ballet shoes, Papa came up to me holding a card with my name written in his scratchy handwriting on the front. Inside the card read, “Good luck, Alex. Show the audience your pretty smile and dance like a princess. And remember ‘no one alive is you-er than you.’” From that day on he’d say that to me before I’d go on stage and there were times that he’d call me to say it before the first of school. He taught me that I’m the only me out there so I should show the world all that I have to offer.
Papa and I have always shared an extraordinary bond, one that as a little girl I didn’t think could get any closer. But after moving from my Sunday school class into the room with the big kids I learned there was something that would make mine and Papa’s connection even stronger. Listening to him read The Bible and seeing how excited he got over God’s Word made me realize that there was something more to The Bible than just stories; that it’s a guide to how one should live their life. There was one instance when Papa told me that if I were to learn one thing from him it would be to love God above all else. From that day forward I found an even closer relationship with God than I had with my Papa. Years later, when I finally felt ready, Papa baptized me. I remember the warm water flowing over my face and the smile in Papa’s eyes as I arose from the water a sister in Christ. Beaming with excitement we held each other, knowing this experience had yet again brought us closer not only to God, but also to each other.
Now that my Papa is reaching the end of his senior years I can reflect on our days spent together and learn from the stories he tells me of his life. One story in particular will stay with me for the rest of my life. He told me of how as a young boy growing up in the middle of the depression, life wasn’t as luxurious as it is now. Poverty reaped in the city he grew up in. Crime, death, and corruption surrounded him and family. After the economy became stable again he met my Grandmother. They met on a blind date at Bob’s Big Boy restaurant and they immediately fell in love. He said from the moment he met my grandmother his life took a complete one eighty, that she showed him how to make life worth the living, and that one day I’ll meet someone as special as that. But what he doesn’t know is that I already have, and that somebody is him: my Papa, who taught me that no one is me-er than me, to love God more than anything, and above all else, he showed me how to make life worth the living.
